Help! My Taba Squishy Got Dirty? 3 Steps to Make It New Again
Share
We’ve all been there. You just received your super soft Taba Squishy from Messimaze, you played with it for ten minutes, and suddenly... it looks like a fuzzy monster. Dust, pet hair, and lint seem to be magnetically attracted to it.
Don't panic! And please, don't think you bought a low-quality product. In fact, this stickiness is actually proof of quality.
In this guide, we’ll explain why this happens and show you the professional 3-step method to restore your squishy to its original, soft glory in less than 5 minutes.
Why is my Squishy so sticky? (The Science Part)
Before we clean it, let’s understand the material. To achieve that viral "jelly-like" texture that is so satisfying to squeeze, high-quality Taba squishies are made from ultra-soft Platinum Silicone or specialized TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber).[1, 2]
The Golden Rule: The softer the squishy, the tackier the surface. If a toy isn't sticky at all, it usually means it's made of harder, cheaper plastic that won't give you that premium stress-relief sensation.
So, a little dust is just the price we pay for extreme softness. But cleaning it is easier than you think.
The 3-Step "Re-New" Routine
Step 1: The Warm Bubble Bath
Take a bowl of warm water (not boiling!) and add a drop of mild hand soap or dish detergent. Gently submerge your squishy and rub it with your fingers. You’ll see the dust and hair slide right off.[3]
Tip: Be gentle! Taba silicone is soft, so use the pads of your fingers, not your fingernails.
Step 2: Air Dry (Crucial Warning!)
This is where most people make a mistake. DO NOT use a paper towel, tissue, or cotton towel to dry your squishy.
Why? When silicone is wet, it is at its stickiest. If you touch it with a paper towel, the paper fibers will stick to the toy, and you'll have to wash it all over again. Instead, shake off the excess water and let it air dry on a clean drying rack or plate.[3]
Step 3: The "Magic Powder" Finish
Once your squishy is dry, it will feel extremely sticky—even stickier than when you bought it. This is normal! To fix this, we need to apply a protective barrier.
- What to use: Cornstarch (recommended) or Baby Powder.[4, 5]
- How to do it: Lightly dust the powder over the squishy like you are sugaring a donut. Pat it evenly and brush off the excess.
The Result: Your squishy will now have a silky, matte finish. It will feel baby-soft and won't attract dust for a while.[6]
Messimaze Promise: Is it Safe?
A common question we get is about safety. Because Taba squishies are so tactile, we want to assure you that at Messimaze, we prioritize materials that are safe for frequent handling.
Our squishies are made from non-toxic materials similar to those used in kitchen silicone ware.[7, 8] However, please remember that while they look like delicious gummies, they are not food—keep them away from small children and pets who might mistake them for a snack!
Ready for a new squeeze?
Now that you know how easy it is to maintain them, why not add a new texture to your collection?
